Field Service Engineer

I am currently recruiting on behalf of my client for a Field Service Engineer to join their established and growing engineering team based at their UK facility in Basingstoke, Hampshire. Candidates must live within a commutable distance of the site. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who is looking for a varied, hands on role offering regular international travel, strong earning potential and the chance to work on highly specialised equipment within a technically advanced environment.

This is a field based role with extensive travel across the UK and Europe. You will typically be working away from home Monday to Thursday or Monday to Friday, supporting customers on site. When not travelling, you will be based at the UK facility supporting testing, preparation and remote technical support. This role offers a great balance of hands on engineering, travel and downtime.

This position would be particularly well suited to an ex-military engineer who is looking to move into a technically challenging role where no two jobs are the same. You will be working on specialist equipment involving both electrical and mechanical systems, with full training provided including high voltage and PLC training, allowing you to further develop your skillset.

Field Service Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Travel to customer sites across the UK and Europe to support commissioning, service and maintenance activities.
  • Oversee installation activities and carry out commissioning and testing to ensure equipment is operating correctly.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical, electronic and mechanical faults on complex equipment.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance and respond to breakdowns when required.
  • Provide remote technical support to customers and internal teams when not on site.
  • Support testing and preparation activities at the UK facility.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in line with health and safety standards and company procedures.

Field Service Engineer Requirements:

  • Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Electrical, Electronic or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Strong electrical or electro-mechanical fault finding skills.
  • Hands on engineering experience working on machinery or technical equipment.
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel extensively and stay away from home.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Self motivated with a proactive and adaptable approach to work.

Field Service Engineer Benefits:

  • OTE £55,000 – £60,000 depending on experience.
  • Overtime and additional allowances for working away.
  • £4,800 car allowance plus mileage.
  • Monday to Friday working pattern.
  • Extensive travel across Europe with expenses covered.
  • Full product training including high voltage and PLC training.
  • Generous pension scheme and life assurance.
  • Mobile phone, laptop and company credit card provided.
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays.
