Electronics Repair Engineer

I am recruiting for my client, a well established business specialising in critical communication systems and infrastructure throughout the UK. They are now seeking an Electronics Repair Engineer to join their engineering team in Scotland. The successful candidate will live in or close to Aberdeen, Dundee, Stirling, Edinburgh, Dunfermline, Perth, Glenrothes, Montrose, Glasgow.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an ex military engineer with a strong electronics background who has genuine component level fault finding and repair experience. The role will involve working on specialist RF transmitters and associated communications equipment, diagnosing faults down to component level rather than simply replacing complete boards or units.

The successful candidate will initially undertake training at my client’s workshop in Wales, with accommodation and expenses provided. Once fully trained, the role will be predominantly based in Scotland and will combine workshop based electronics repair with occasional field engineering duties.

Electronics Repair Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose, fault find and repair RF transmitters and associated communications equipment to component level and carry out PCB repair, soldering, desoldering, rework and component replacement.
  • Test, align and calibrate repaired equipment prior to returning it to service.
  • Use electronic test equipment including oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators and spectrum analysers.
  • Install, commission, maintain and upgrade communications systems and associated equipment.
  • Support fault investigation and repair across customer and network sites when required.
  • Participate in an out of hours support rota once fully trained.

Electronics Repair Engineer Requirements:

  • Strong electronics engineering background with ONC, HNC or equivalent qualification in Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, Radio Engineering or another relevant discipline.
  • Experience diagnosing faults on PCBs down to individual components including resistors and capacitors.
  • Confident carrying out soldering, desoldering, rework and electronic repairs.
  • Experienced using electronic test equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers and multimeters.
  • Willingness to travel and stay away from home occasionally when required.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Electronics Repair Engineer Benefits:

  • Competitive basic salary depending on experience.
  • On call allowance and overtime payable.
  • Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
  • Company car or car allowance.
  • Mobile phone and laptop.
  • Company pension.
  • Employee assistance programme.
