Our well-established client is involved in providing services to the marine industry. They now have a requirement for a Captain to join their team in Woolwich. You’ll hold full responsibility for the safe operation of the vessel, welfare of crew and passengers and protection of the environment.


Captain Responsibilities:
- Manage the safe operation of the ferry, crew, passengers and shore base interface with linkspans and berths, incident and emergency procedure management including safety drills.
- Maintain the operation of vessel efficiently so that KPI's are achieved.
- Manage shore-based interface with car parks.
- Ensure that the vessel, auto-moorings, linkspans and CCTV are functional and report defects.
- Deputise for the Operations Manager where necessary.
- Ensure all work’s conducted in full compliance with Company and statutory Health, Safety & Environmental policies, associated site safety regulations and good industry practice.
- Line management responsibilities for crew.
- Responsible for ensuring the floodgates are closed at the end of late shift and during flood alerts.
- Manage all on-board equipment including machinery spaces and safety equipment in accordance with OPM and technical engineering support.
- Update vessel manuals and risk assessments ensuring relevant certification is obtained to adhere to MCA and Health and Safety regulations.
- Manage crew performance, including, conduct, absence, leave, training and development in line with company policy and regulatory standards.
- Facilitate emergency drills in accordance with regulatory requirements and safe operational procedures and maintain a record of competence crew training and familiarisation records. Complete toolbox talks as requested.

Captain Applicant Requirements:
- MCA Boat Master’s licence (Level 1 tier 2 category D with relevant LKE or ability to attain PEC and following endorsements: UK Inland Waterways, Large Passenger Vessel.
- STCW Certification (Personal Survival Techniques, ECDIS, Crowd Control/Crisis Management, Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting and First Aid).
- ML5 Seafarer Medical Certificate or Valid ENG 1
- Expert knowledge of Safety Management System, Competent Crewing, Vessel and Auxiliary machinery familiarisation.
- Competent in the use of vessel control systems.
- Ability to write detailed investigatory reports.
- Overall managerial command of a large passenger vessel or seagoing ship.
