Introduction:
Our client is a security certification body, providing inspection and quality management audits to their clients in the UK and Ireland. Due to continued expansion they are now looking for a Technical Author (Security Standards) to support the Head of Standards in managing the technical changes and development of new and existing approval schemes.

SALARY IS £38,000 - £40,000, 25 DAYS HOLIDAY PLUS BANK HOLIDAYS, GENEROUS PENSION SCHEME, LIFE ASSURANCE.

Technical Author (Security Standards) Responsibilities:
- Support the Head of Technical Services in managing the technical changes and development of new and existing approval schemes.
- Represent the company on all relevant standards committees as required.
- Keep abreast of technical changes within the security industry making a contribution to the development of new and existing approval schemes e.g. Electronic Security Systems, Alarm Receiving Centres (ARC’s), Fire Systems and Guarding.
- Monitor and communicate technical changes and development of all company approval schemes.
- Provide technical support within the areas of expertise for internal and external customers and for the company website as and when required, author technical and quality assurance documentation as required.
- Research and communicate new developments or changes to technology within the security sector, primarily in respect of electronic security systems, alarm receiving centres and fire systems, generating proposals for approval schemes.
- Understand and communicate the implications of those developments and changes internally and to approved companies.
- Deal with technical enquiries received internally and also from approved companies, police, fire representatives, insurers, the general public and others.
- Provide input/expertise at Sector Committee meetings, Regional Meetings, Regional Technical Liaison Committee meetings or other meetings where the company may be asked to provide input.
- Author company codes of practice, approval criteria, and other certification documentation, forms, checklists, ARC pre-application advisory visit reports, etc. as required.
- Maintain the rules of all company approval schemes, in conjunction with other members of the organisation.
- Attend relevant BSI committee meetings, participating as appropriate, submitting comments on drafts, etc.

Technical Author (Security Standards) Applicant Requirements:
- Must come from a sound engineering background and hold a minimum of HNC/HND in Electronics/Electrical.
- Proven technical writing skills with the ability to write clearly.
- Project development experience and able to work to deadlines.
- Technical/engineering knowledge in at least some of the area of work covers by the company approval schemes e.g. Electronic Security Systems, Alarm Receiving Centres, Fire Systems, Guarding etc.
- Good understanding of state of the art technology and technical advancements e.g. Cyber security and C.C.T.V.
- Understanding of the principles of Quality Management and of ISO 9001:2015.
- Understanding of British and European Standards. E.g. EN 50131, BS 7499, BS 5839.
- Administrative and management experience.
- IT Literate – good understanding of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Hold a valid driving licence.
