Our client is a leading manufacturer of products within their industry. They now have an urgent requirement for a Mechanical Operator to join their team at their site in Gateshead on a 9-12 Month Fixed Term Contract), possible leading to a permanent role however this cannot be guaranteed. Reporting to the Production Manager the successful candidate will undertake the mechanical assembly of bespoke electrical machines (motors and generators) in line with company design and quality requirements.

This presents itself as an ideal opportunity to join an established company and, although not essential, could be well suited for a person who has previously served in the Armed Forces i.e. Army, Royal Navy, or Royal Air Force (RAF) and has previously worked within a similar assembly role.

- Mechanical assembly of bespoke electrical machines (motors and generators) in line with company design and quality requirements.
- Working within a low volume manufacturing environment involving complex machinery.
- Use engineering drawings and manuals to make improvements.
- Capable of working using initiative with some guidance from engineering team.
- Evaluate Design for Manufacture principles during the initial assembly process.
- Develop the relevant production documentation to capture and define the manufacturing process.
- Working from engineering drawings to fit and build parts, using a variety of hard tools and processes.
- Identify any issues or change, and propose solutions.
- To maintain general housekeeping and contribute in continuous improvement ideas / activities.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as they arise that are within the expected or demonstrated skill level of the employee.
- Actively follow the Company’s Health and Safety Policy, Procedures and safe systems of work and be responsible for your own health and welfare, working with colleagues to ensure that the working environment is safe. This includes following instructions and actively participating in training and development to ensure compliance and best practice in this area.

Applicant Requirements:
- The successful candidate will hold a relevant engineering qualification (i.e. NVQ / Engineering Apprenticeship.
- Previous working background within mechanical or electro-mechanical assembly.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Able to use a range of hand tools.
- Experience of building special purpose machinery.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interface at all levels.
- IT Literate.
- Qualified for machine tool use.
- Use of the following machinery: lathes, grinders, milling machines.

- Auto-enrolment Pension.
- Mon – Thurs: 7.45am – 4.15pm Fri: 7.45am – 12.45pm.
