Introduction:
My client is an established and leading global manufacturer. They are now looking for 3 x Electrical & Instrumentation Shift Engineers at their new site in Skelmersdale, Lancashire. The successful candidates will be responsible for carrying out the planned, preventative maintenance and repairs to machinery safely and effectively in order to achieve maximum efficiency and minimum downtime.

This presents itself as an ideal opportunity to join an established company and, although not essential, could be well suited for a person who has previously served in the Armed Forces i.e. Army (REME), Royal Navy (Marine Engineer/Weapons) or Royal Air Force/RAF (Ground Support/Electronics/Avionics) with a strong electrical background.

Responsibilities:
- Responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting the technology in their area of responsibility.
- Work towards a zero-breakdown and zero-stop-mentality and reducing the maintenance costs including working capital reduction for spare parts.
- Takes ownership for the overall site and working area; monitoring key maintenance KPIs such as breakdowns and has a strong service-department mind set towards the operations/ other departments.
- Work securely with the expert maintenance tools (SAP-PM, SOP’s).
- Perform high quality root-cause analysis for technical and process problems.
- Address the root cause of any failure; take the appropriate action to resolve and feedback learning’s/observations to enable processes to be improved thus preventing repeat failures.
- Support and suggest and implement improvements (eg: safety, technology, process) and assure legal compliance on maintenance works.
- Ensure that all site electrical instrumentation and control equipment is operating safely and at maximum efficiency.
- Deal with faults/breakdowns as quickly as possible whilst maintaining high standards of workmanship.
- Carry out condition monitoring activities, resolve where possible, and report any faults or potential faults for later attention.
- Conduct thorough handovers between shift electricians.
-- Liaise with the Shift Team Leader to prioritise.
- Ensure the housekeeping of the work area is maintained to the highest standard.
- Undergo such training as may be required by the Company and adapt to alterations in working methods, systems and procedures as may be dictated by technological changes or re-organisation within the Company.
- Cover, in addition to the above, other areas of responsibility as required (eg: in the event of the absence of colleagues or in the event that extra help is required at that particular time).

Applicant Requirements:
Essential:
- Hold a relevant electrical engineering qualification to a minimum of NVQ Level 3/HNC.
- Proven experience within a heavy machinery environment.
- Knowledge and experience of flow level, pressure and temperature monitoring equipment.
- Experience with rotating machinery; 3 phase motors.
- Experience with PLC fault finding.
- Knowledge of process instrumentation.
- Knowledge of pneumatic/hydraulic components.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Team Player
- Good organisational skills.
- Flexible approach to work.
- IT Literate.
Desirable
- Knowledge of burner and boiler systems.
- High Voltage experience.
- Hold Mobile Elevated Working Platforms (MEWPS) Licence.
