Marine Engineering Manager

Our client, based in North Shields, is a well-established company operating within the marine industry, delivering advanced computerised management systems and integrated logistic support services to commercial shipping, industrial, and military markets.

Their expertise includes the development and supply of software for maintenance, supply, and document management, alongside the creation of technical publications and engineering support services.

The business is proudly supported by a wider commercial shipping group and is renowned for employing talented ex-Royal Navy and Merchant Navy engineers — many of whom have built long-term careers within the organisation.

The Role
Reporting directly to the Director, the Marine Engineering Manager plays an integral role in overseeing the engineering delivery function. You will manage a team of 16 Project Engineers and Project Managers, ensuring the successful delivery of all active contracts across the company’s portfolio. This is a diverse, leadership-driven position offering exposure to a variety of marine projects and customers across the world.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of marine engineers and project professionals.
  • Oversee contract delivery to ensure quality, timeliness, and profitability.
  • Act as a key technical and managerial liaison with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to the engineering team.
  • Support business growth and continuous improvement across engineering functions.

The Candidate

  • Background as a Senior Engineering Officer within the Royal Navy or Merchant Navy.
  • Proven experience in marine engineering and engineering management.
  • Strong people leadership and mentoring capabilities.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to present to and engage with customers at all levels.
