Introduction:
Our client is one of Kent's largest further education and training providers offering an extensive range of learning and training services in the South East for over 100 years. Our client has secured a 30 year commercial contract with the Ministry of Defence to provide non-military training to the Royal Engineers (British Army) at Brompton Barracks. Due to this contract they now have a requirement for a Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering.
This is a new post where you will work closely with both civilian and military lecturers to deliver critical knowledge to key members of the British Army.
Responsibilities:
- Delivering Construction Civil Engineering training and assessment to Royal Engineer Officers and soldiers up to Maters Level and mentoring through to Chartership.
- The delivery of core subject matter in line with course syllabuses.
- To aid in the creation and review of relevant training documentation.
- To review and update training aids and lesson plans.
- To respect and contribute to the company culture, at all times working to achieve company values.
- To conduct oneself in a safe manner and to encourage others to do likewise.
- Encourage a supportive learning environment promoting participation, encouraging questions and experience sharing.
- To be responsible for the duty of care of delegates and other staff under his/her control during the execution of the primary purpose.
- To carry out such other appropriate duties commensurate with your skills, knowledge and experience.
- You will continue to maintain up to date knowledge of the Construction Industry and liaise with the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE).
Applicant Requirements:
- The successful applicant will hold a degree in an appropriate Construction related discipline.
- A Masters in Soil Mechanics or considerable experience in this discipline would be seen as a distinct advantage.
- You will have experience gained across Soils, Steel Structure Design and Concrete Technology and be a "generalist" with significant field experience
- Ideally, you will be a Chartered Construction Professional with a "Contractor" rather than "Consultant" background
- Relevant adult teaching qualifications would be seen as a distinct advantage.
- Ability to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of Civil Engineering within the Construction industry
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to engage students fully in the topics you will cover.
- The ability to mentor students is important and you may have already supported young engineers throughout your career to date.
- A motivated self starter
Due to the location and nature of this role, the successful applicant will be required to undergo security clearance and declare previous spent and unspent convictions as defined in the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exemptions) Order 1975, as amended.
