Introduction:

 

My client is a leading manufacturer and distributor of world class cutting tools.  They are now looking for a Maintenance Engineer to provide effective and efficient planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance to the plant operations to minimise losses due to any engineering causes.  The successful candidate will be responsible for providing maintenance services in support of production and the work will include servicing, fault finding, repair and testing of a wide range of electrical and instrumentation equipment. 

 

 

This presents itself as an ideal opportunity to join an established company and, although not essential, could be well suited for a person who has previously served in HM Armed Forces i.e. British Army, Royal Navy or Royal Air Force (RAF) and has previously worked within a similar role.

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

- Carry out reactive breakdown repairs and adhere to the Planned Preventative Maintenance schedule. 
- Responsible for the fault diagnosis and repair of a wide variety of Electrical Systems including CNC and PLC controlled units, NC, motor drives, inverters, CNC grinders and special purpose machinery.

 

- Provide fault diagnosis and solutions to plant and machinery breakdowns and adhere to the planned preventative maintenance schedules and are required to respond to reactive machine breakdowns.

 

- Comprehensive recording of all necessary information using the in-house computer system.

 

- Ensure that machinery and equipment are maintained to achieve maximum efficiency and comply with all Health & Safety Requirements.
- Use spare machine parts cost-effectively and ensures they are all booked in and out of stores.

 

- Implementing improvements to safety, housekeeping, workplace organisation, environment, productivity and quality.

 

- Liaise with Engineers, Mangers and Production Staff as necessary.

 

- Identify machine modifications that will increase machine reliability and productivity.

 

- Assist in the training of other members of staff as requested.

 

- After a training period, working a rotating 2-shift system the role will involve working a weekend shift consisting of three 12-hour shifts (Sat, Sun and Mon).

 

 

Applicant Requirements:

 

Essential:

 

- Time served Engineer or the completion of an engineering biased apprenticeship ideally ONC or higher.

 

- Working background within a production/manufacturing plant is essential.
- Hold a relevant qualification in Electrical Engineering.

 

- Able to repair CNC/NC/special purpose machinery.

 

- Ability to read and understand electromechanical drawings and machine documentation on various types of production equipment.

 

- Flexible approach to work due to working weekends after the training period.
- You will be self-motivated, capable of working within a proactive team and be committed to Planned Preventative Maintenance and the highest standards of Health & Safety.

- Able to prioritise workload as issued by maintenance department as well as unplanned works.

 

- Good communication skills.

 

- Good time management and organisational skills.

 

- Excellent attention to detail.

 

- IT Literate.

 

Desirable:

 

- Ability to read and understand electrical machine drawings.

 

- Mechanical knowledge of fitting CNC equipment.

 

- Understanding of electrical machine control systems.

 

 

Benefits:

 

- Initial shifts: 0600-1410hrs and 1350-2200hrs.

 

- Overtime available.  Overtime rate is calculated at time and a half.

 

- 25 days annual leave plus 8 statutory days. For 2012 – 34 days due to Diamond Jubilee.
